Description
My brother, who poses for reference in many of my paintings, wanted me to paint him in a style that was similar to the movie '300'. Painting him in Spartan gear was a lot of fun, and a bit challenging as well. A lot of thought went into this piece, from the composition to the setting, and I feel I have a stronger piece of work because of that. I learned a lot about how colors work as well working on this piece. Overall I'm very satisfied with this one.

The face has a strong character which works well. Good use of lighting as always.
I think the arm needs work as it seems to need a bit more muscle definition and the hand and wrist seem a bit awkward. I think the sky tones around his head creating an aura of sorts seems a bit contrived and maybe is not needed. I'd also like a bit more room on the top and left side.
All that being said, it is good artwork George but I think it could be stronger.

One thing though, dude, I'd like to see guys who don't look like yourself or your brother in your paintings one of these days

And the blood from the spear seems to be dripping in a weird way. I'm not sure if it would look like that in reality.

killadore: Thank you
katea: Thank you. As for the clean look, I tried to break it up by adding some texture work here and there, perhaps I should have taken it a step further... I agree with your critiques as well, thanks for posting

One major issue though: The blood is completely unrealistic. Real blood doesn't drip like syrup. It runs like water, down the blade and handle, assuming there's even that much to begin with. It's more likely it would leave a patchy thin layer of red on the metal, with no real indication of any liquid dripping in any way.
I suggest (if your art is important to you), you take a couple hours to draw a small amount of your own blood and experiment with it. (be safe though. use a sterile syringe) Blood is VERY difficult to get right, and sometimes you just have to see it for yourself.

The ones above really said most of the important things... so i will only congratulate you! ^^
Well done with materials and lighting.
I agree with Andy about the spears, its really nice!
An atom tiny crit: in the close-up face picture... the is a drop of blood dripping trought the eyebrow. the blood should stop
And also... i think a shield would have a some sort of handle, so the user can control it. As you drawn it would just go round the wrist.
S.P.

I agree with Xid about the blood.
